Claude can now build your sheets

Claude is excellent at writing Apps Script, the code that automates Google Sheets. The hard part has always been getting that code into your sheet, saving it safely, and fixing it when something breaks.

BrilSheet's free MCP connector solves that. Once you install it from Claude's directory, Claude can read and update the Apps Script behind your sheet directly, from the Claude sidebar in Google Sheets.

You just ask. For example:

"Add a menu that emails me this sheet every Monday."

"Send me an email when any value in column D drops below 10."

"Import yesterday's rows from my other sheet every morning at 7."

"My script stopped working. Find the problem and fix it."

You never need to mention BrilSheet. Claude reads your sheet in the Google Sheets sidebar; BrilSheet reads and updates only its bound Apps Script project and saves or restores versions in your own Project history. Claude shows you an Apps Script Log of what was added, changed or deleted.

The first time for each sheet, paste its Apps Script address in Claude once. BrilSheet remembers it in brilsheet.json, one private file in its own app data folder in your Google Drive. The file lists which script belongs to which spreadsheet, whether the welcome was shown and whether you added or skipped the BrilSheet tab. These are BrilSheet's two Google permissions: Apps Script projects and its own app data folder. It cannot see your other Drive files and does not open, read or write your spreadsheets. Claude itself creates and reads the optional BrilSheet tab.

Every change is safe. BrilSheet saves a named backup in the script's Project history before each save. If you do not like the result, say "undo that".

It also brings best practice: clean structure, solid formulas, one tidy menu and as few code files as possible.

To use it you need a paid Claude plan with Claude for Google Workspace, and the Apps Script API switched on. The connector itself is free.
